“If you make every game a life and death proposition, you’re going to have problems. For one thing, you’ll be dead a lot.” -Dean Smith

Exchange Student Update

Lorenz played in the pep band Saturday at the basketball game. He also attended a breakfast for recognition of his 4.0 GPA. Nice job Lorenz!

Unfortunately he lost his wallet but the replacement is on its way.

Laura went to the Paramount to see the show Tommy which she enjoyed. She also went to one of the Naperville Rotary Clubs with her host brother who was given a scholarship.

Janessa Avila is a 2015-2016 outbound to Thailand. She came to visit and shared how she is excited to begin her adventure.

Guest Speaker

Cindy Jonke from Junior Achievement was our guest speaker. On top of telling us all about the organization she is looking for volunteers for career fairs at West Aurora High School March 3rd and East Aurora April 16th. If interested please contact her at

Junior Achievement brings financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship programs into classrooms from kindergarten through high school. Junior Achievement of Chicago is the largest JA office of more than 120 area offices in the United States and reached an all-time high of 484,239 students during the 2013-2014 school year.

JA programs show students the value of an education, bridge the gap of what they are learning in the classroom with the real world, and equip them with the skills and tools they need to be more successful in school and their future careers. Our programs prepare students to proactively manage their finances, become entrepreneurs, and develop skills that will be recognized and valuable in a global workforce.

Wine and Chocolate Update

Overall the club raised around $18,000 for the fine people we support. Planning is already underway for next year’s event on January 31st 2016. There will be a few changes and planning, auction item gathering, printing, etc. will begin right away. Members will be assigned areas of responsibility and we get an early jump on this to prevent last minute heroics. Great job everyone on another successful event!

Laura had the winning ticket again! That makes 3 or 4 in a row but the joker can’t seem to pull the joker, it was the 2 of clubs.
