Laura Update
Yes she had to go solo today because Lorenz hit the snooze button one too many times.
Laura had a nice Christmas including a trip into Chicago with the other inbound students. During break Laura and Lorenz also had a Columbia vs Switzerland Kitchen Sink Challenge.
Laura has moved in with her new host family and she is busy getting acclimated to her new surroundings.
Wine & Chocolate
Wine and Chocolate planning is well under way with less than 3 weeks to go. We need to get those sponsors and auction items in ASAP. Sponsorship info needs to be sent to Joe at jkosner@yahoo.com.
Young Hearts For Life
Meghan Hill is a teacher at West Aurora and also a coach at Washington Middle School. She has taken on the task of organizing the heart screening of high school students at West Aurora. The YHFL organization is special to Meghan because she lost an 18 year old cousin to an undiagnosed heart ailment. Students sign up and are given an ECG test to look for abnormalities. 2 years ago 18 students required further testing by their doctor and 1 student had a serious heart problem that prevented them from playing sports. The test also saved their life as if undetected would have certainly caused cardiac arrest.
This year the testing will be conducted February 12th and 13th at West Aurora High School. Volunteers are needed to help with the testing and there will be training on February 11th in the evening. The Aurora Sunrise Rotary Club has donated $1000 to this great cause. For more information please click below.
Happy Buck$
Joe says thank you for those who participated in the putting up and take down of the light display in Phillips Park. The take down was easier than the put up, but the temps were about 30 degrees colder.
