December Meetings 2014

Sorry I got a little behind on posting of meetings. Here are the highlights of our meetings for December.

District Governor Nikki Scott was our special guest. She shared with us that 95% of Rotarians are above the age of 40. There are many new ideas to reach out to a new generation to join Rotary including membership grants.

She also took time out to present a Paul Harris pin to Karen Olson. Congratulations Karen we are proud of you!

Our guest Speaker was Ted Parge, executive VP at Aurora University

Ted told us about a Healing the Heart of Democracy Action Circle that is starting at Aurora University. The Five Habits of the Heart that this group is based on are:

  • We are all in this together

  • An appreciation for the value of our differences

  • Ability to hold tension and conflict in creative ways

  • A sense of personal voice (the ability to listen deeply to one another and then speak your own views)

  • The capacity to create community

Groups will meet one time per month for 2 hours over a 6 month time

A new group is starting January 14 at 7pm

To find out more information contact the Wackerlin Center at 630-844-6864 or email

Our guest for this meeting was the multiple bottles of booze at our annual gift exchange.

Laura and Lorenz Updates

These 2 have been very busy during the holiday season. After Christmas Laura moved into a new host family and Lorenz’s family has agreed to keep him the entire year. They have been very active participating in concerts at West High and Laura is in the Adams Family production at the Prisco Center starting January 10th.

There was a kitchen sink challenge at Colonial and I think that was a win-win for them. They are now the proud owners of kitchen sink bumper stickers.

Happy Buck$

Sue is happy for Alyssa who has a great relationship with her host family. This is very important during the holidays.

Joe was excited about the Jon Lester signing by the Cubs, proving that next year is finally here.

Jen Waters has recovered from her serious injuries in Spain and she made it home for Christmas.

Jack and Dr Dave had the opportunity to perform in various holiday concerts around the Fox Valley area.

Tom was fined for some very bad jokes.

The pot keeps growing as nobody has picked out the joker. Jack had the lucky ticket twice this month but struck out. The pot is now over $300.

Victoria was a recent in-bound from Venezuela and she has returned to pursue her college education. Now that she is graduating she is looking for employment to obtain her work visa.We never forget those who have gone out-bound or those we have been able to host for a year as an in-bound. Help Victoria find a position in her field which is Health Science and Biology with minor Chemistry and Physiology.
